JMN Listserv Guidelines

The JMN listserv is a private forum to discuss issues affecting Jewish multiracial families and individual Jews of color and to provide members with a safe space in which they can express themselves.

Admission to the listserv is by request. Please contact the listserv moderator at the email address below or issue your request through the contact page on this website.

JMN has adopted guidelines for listserv use to ensure that this forum stays true to its mission and accords the views of its members proper respect. Please adhere to these guidelines when posting in order to create the most positive experience possible for everyone in the listserv community. Thank you kindly for your consideration.

  • Respect other members points of view.

While it is inevitable that JMN listserv members will disagree on certain issues, this does not justify name-calling, cursing, or other similar behaviors. JMN encourages debate but will not tolerate posts demonstrating disrespect for others.

  • Do not forward people’s posts to non-members unless you get approval of the poster first.

This ensures that the member’s confidentiality is maintained.

  • Personal and one-on-one emails should not be posted for the entire listserv to see.

This includes brief responses like: I agree or Thank you;

  • Post only relevant information, thoughts, or event announcements.
  • As a group we have agreed not to post emails nor discuss issues relating to Israel and peace in the Middle East. It is a sensitive subject and there are many opinions.

We recognize that the concept of relevance is a tough one to negotiate. Members ideas on which topics are relevant/irrelevant will vary. We ask that everyone use their best judgment. Little tangents to discuss an issue (not directly related to multiracial families and Jews of color) are fine. It is when these posts become excessive and take over the listserv, that we will become concerned.

If you’re unsure about the relevance of a potential topic or posting, please contact the moderator at jmnetmoderator@gmail.com before posting to the listserv.

The personal and intellectual comfort of listserv members is of paramount importance, and JMN reserves the right to remove, edit, or close any message or topic that compromises the forum. Along these lines, JMN also reserves the right to immediately remove any violator of these guidelines.
